DESCRIPTION:Paralympic powerlifting\, also known as para powerlifting and para-lifting\, is an adaptation of the sport of powerlifting for athletes with disabilities. The only discipline in Paralympic powerlifting is the bench press. For competition\, the bench press is the sport’s single discipline\, with 10 different categories based on body weight. SUMMARY:Sled Hockey
DESCRIPTION:Sled hockey follows most of the typical ice hockey rules with the exception of some of the equipment. Players sit in specially designed sleds that sit on top of two hockey skate blades. There are two sticks for each player instead of one and the sticks have metal pics on the butt end for players to propel themselves. GLASA provides all hockey gear (pads\, jersey\, socks\, gloves\, helmet\, guards) and equipment (sled and sticks) needed to play. Assistants are available to support athletes who may not be able to self-propel on the ice. \nYouth\, Teen & Adult (Ages 7+)\nWheelchair & Ambulatory \nPractice are held in Lake Bluff\, IL on Sundays. SUMMARY:Sled Hockey
DESCRIPTION:Sled hockey follows most of the typical ice hockey rules with the exception of some of the equipment. Players sit in specially designed sleds that sit on top of two hockey skate blades. There are two sticks for each player instead of one and the sticks have metal pics on the butt end for players to propel themselves. GLASA provides all hockey gear (pads\, jersey\, socks\, gloves\, helmet\, guards) and equipment (sled and sticks) needed to play. Assistants are available to support athletes who may not be able to self-propel on the ice. \nYouth\, Teen & Adult (Ages 7+)\nWheelchair & Ambulatory \nPractice are held in Lake Bluff\, IL on Sundays. Youth practices from 1-1:45pm; Adults practice from 1-3pm. Please check your SportsPlus app for the most up-to-date practice sessions.

DESCRIPTION:The Instructional Swim program is for individuals who have a physical or visual disability that are new to swimming. Athletes will be assigned one-on-one to a volunteer swim instructor. Floatation devices will not be used in the teaching progression. \nThe Independent Swim program is designed for swimmers who are able to swim at least 50 meters consecutively\, can be completely independent while in the water (no volunteer or coach assistance needed). Workouts are provided to increase endurance\, strength and speed. Instruction is given to fine tune technique. Recreational swimmers who are looking to improve their technique or stroke are welcome. \nInstructional sessions are held in Lake Forest on Sundays (session times vary from 4:00-6:00pm) and in Carol Stream on Thursday evenings. \nIndependent Swim sessions are held in Lake Forest on Sundays from 6:00-7:00pm \n*Limited space available.
